FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What About Wind
What if There is No Wind?
Answer: Install the included No-Wind-Kit (takes about 30 seconds).
Without the No-Wind-Kit, Solbello does require a 4+ mph breeze, otherwise it will not stay afloat.
***Wind generally stops as the sun sets and picks back up when the sun rises. During beach days, almost all beaches get a sufficient (4mph+) and consistent breeze more than 90% of the time.
What if the Wind Changes Direction?
As the wind shifts direction, the sail will self-adjust. Typically the wind is constantly shifting 5º - 10º, this amount of directional shift doesn't mean you'll have to move. Solbello will still provide you... shade for days.
What if the Wind is Completely Switching Directions?
If the wind is light and gusting in different directions, the No-Wind-Kit may apply. When installed correctly, the bungees are long enough to work as a baffle to release trapped air. Here, the No-Wind-Kit can hold up in heavier wind conditions.
***For most beaches on sunny days, swirling and gusting conditions are rare, nor ideal for Solbello (or any shade we know of).
***Do not use the No-Wind-Kit in wind if the ground conditions don't allow the stakes to be planted securely.
***Always use your best judgement and use at your own risk!
Can it be Too Windy?
We've tested Solbello in winds exceeding 40 MPH, which is considered a tropical storm. Most people tend not to worry about the sun during a tropical storm, and with higher winds the pole might lean: however, it will still work to provide shade.
Is it Noisy?
Working directly with our fabric mill, we are proud to have devised a process to ensure the fabric is very quiet. However the sail does flap in the breeze, and with higher wind speeds the flapping sound will be noticeably louder.
***Different air conditions (humidity, pressure, etc) may also amplify the sound.
What's the Level of UV Protection?
Solbello's canopy is rated to provide 50+ UPF Sun protection, meaning it blocks at least 98% of harmful UV rays (the canopy also includes a waterproof treatment).
How Many People will it Accommodate?
Solbello provides an average 60 square feet of shade. This is ideal for two people, a cooler, a dog, and a child (or a variety of other combinations).
Where to Use
Is Solbello Only for Beaches?
Beaches offer open space air flow combined with natural sea breezes to make our product work right. Flat-wide-open-beaches are ideal.
**Using the No-Wind-Kit, anywhere with penetrable ground has potential.
Some beaches have ordinances that only permit single-pole beach umbrellas. Solbello is technically an umbrella, and has just a single point touching the sand.
***However, there have been two reported beaches (North Myrtle Beach, SC & Rehoboth Beach, DE), that only allow "circular" umbrellas. Despite being safer, Solbello may not be allowed here.
We encourage everyone to know their local beach ordinances before purchasing.
