Questions?
Wind-broken umbrellas and tents fill our landfills and hospitalize thousands of people every year.
The Solbello® patented design is the only wind-driven umbrella and the only shade to fully work with the wind and cannot fly away in strong winds or gusts.
Solbello provides 64 square feet of 50+ UPF shade. This is ideal for 2-3 people sitting comfortable under the shade, with room leftover for beach gear.
Solbello’s shade has been tested by SGS laboratories in both the U.S. and overseas, using the AATCC TM183 standard for UV protection. The fabric is rated at UPF 50+, meaning it blocks 98% or more of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This is the highest level of protection available for fabrics and is recommended for anyone looking to minimize their exposure to harmful UV rays. Testing was conducted by ISO-certified laboratories to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Even though Solbello blocks over 98% of the sun’s UV rays, we encourage beachgoers to take a comprehensive approach to sun protection. Reflected UV rays from water and sand can still transmit 5% to 15% of harmful radiation, so it’s important to pair shade with other protective measures like sunblock, hats, UV-protective clothing, and sunglasses — especially for those with sun-sensitive skin or heightened UV sensitivity.
The Solbello® Shade is powered by the wind. As little as 4 mph is all that is needed to float the shade effortlessly above you.
When does the wind usually pick up at the beach?
While conditions vary, most beaches experience a natural increase in wind as the day warms up. After about 11am, sea breezes typically kick in—making this the ideal time for Solbello to shine. That's when your shade is likely to stay perfectly aloft with minimal effort.
What if the wind changes direction?
As the wind shifts direction, the shade is designed to self-adjust with it—thanks to our patented design! On typical beach days, the wind only shifts about 10–20º, which doesn’t require you to move your seat.
Do I need to learn anything to use it?
Solbello is easy to use and works effortlessly in typical afternoon beach winds. You only need to learn a few quick tips for those rare tricky days—like light, swirling, or offshore wind. Once you're familiar, it becomes second nature and frustration-free.
The Beach
Beaches are the best environment for Solbello, providing ample space and sea breeze airflow necessary for optimal product performance. Flat, wide-open beaches are the most suitable.
Just Beaches?
The Solbello® has been used on boats that are equipped with fishing rod holders. The Solbello® fits nicely into rod holders providing shade when the boat is not moving or at slow speeds.
All Beaches?
Solbello is permitted on nearly every beach and is the safest single-pole umbrella you can get! However, to our knowledge, the following beaches may not allow Solbello between Memorial Day and Labor Day: Myrtle Beach (SC), Rehoboth Beach (DE), and certain parts of Long Beach Island (NJ).
Beach-Safe?
Solbello has recently become certified as 'beach-safe' under the new ASTM safety standard endorsed by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). We hope that ordinances will soon change to prioritize caution. Learn more about this new Safety Standard under 'Certifications and Patents' below.
A No-Wind Kit is included for those rare days when there's no wind at the beach, or when it's unusually light and shifting. Do not use the No-Wind Kit in windy conditions if the ground doesn't allow the stakes to be securely planted. Always use your best judgment and proceed at your own risk.

Great question — and one we’re happy to answer transparently.
Solbello is committed to minimizing our environmental impact, which is why we use eco-friendly, minimal packaging. After anodizing and printing, each post is handled, stored, assembled, quality-checked, and shipped — and during that process, light surface scratches can occur.
Our factory offered to wrap each post in plastic film to prevent this — at no extra cost — but we declined. Why? Because those small scratches don’t affect performance, and we’d rather avoid adding more plastic to landfills and oceans. Globally, over 82 million tons of packaging waste are generated each year — much of it from single-use plastics.
Solbello is intentionally built to last, unlike traditional umbrellas that break easily and contribute to an estimated 500,000+ tons of discarded beach umbrellas and shades in landfills each year. Scratches are cosmetic and will happen eventually through normal use — we hope you’ll see them as a small sign of a smarter, more sustainable choice.
Plus, our sails are made with recycled materials. So when you see those tiny imperfections, know you’re supporting the planet — not just buying a better beach umbrella.
